What is the application process to get into the Academy?
We are seeking the most ambitious and creative minds to join the Academy. If that is you, then great! The application is quick and consists of two components, a 5 minute written portion and then a live ZOOM interview. You can easily complete the written section and schedule your interview by clicking on any of the “apply” buttons.
How long is the Academy and how many hours of instruction should I expect?
The Academy is a 12 week experience that culminates with students presenting their project in a pitch competition, with judges deciding which ideas will gain subsequent funding. The curriculum consists of 20 hours of archived video learning designed to give all students the necessary background to be successful, then weekly live sessions with experts to provide idea inspiring context, followed by weekly innovation group meetings (office hours) with fellow peers allowing students to work side-by-side and build essential team building skills, then finally bi-monthly 1:1 meetings with their assigned expert mentor. In total, students receive 86 hours of instruction.
I have an area of interest and project that is not listed, is this acceptable?
The listed projects are specially designed to stimulate curiosity and serve as a starting point for successful research and start-up ideas. They are also based on expert mentor availability, but that does not mean we do not want students to come up with their own projects. In the application you will have a chance to specify a project of interest or propose your own.
Do I get to choose my mentor?
Our goal is to pair you with the perfect mentor. Based on your application we will match you with the expert that will match your learning style and interests. Our mentors come from all backgrounds. We have the perfect fit for everyone.
Is there an application fee?
Nope! Applying is completely free. Filling out the initial application should take you less than 5 minutes.
What is the Minteer alumni network?
Every student that successfully completes the Academy will be given lifetime access to the Minteer alumni network, which is a portal of alumni, experts and mentors, designed to facilitate career mobility for alumni. From applying to college, to graduate school and getting your first job, the Minteer alumni network is here to help you achieve your dreams.
Who are the expert mentors?
All of our mentors are experts in at least one of the field subjects. They typically already have advanced degrees like PhDs, MDs, JDs and MBAs, but they also include Doctoral candidates, founders and executives. Our diverse mentor team is what makes the Academy such a unique place.
What is the innovation fund?
At the culmination of the Academy students will pitch or present their projects for a chance to win up to $5,000 from our innovation fund to make their ambitions a reality. There are also many other prizes, honors and awards. The innovation fund was established from a generous donation from the founders and is supported by many other donors and businesses.
